California Dreaming
Aspen Mays invited me to work on turning her newest series, California Dreaming, into an accessible art book. I had worked with her the past summer on creating the digital negatives of the windows to use in the darkroom, so I was familiar with the project beforehand.
Colorful Paper
Her book presented an interesting challenge: because there were several pieces of colorful paper inserted throughout the book, I had to edit and compensate for colors on spreads to match or create entirely new colors. And because the printer we were working with wasn’t local, this was a process I had to do mostly with soft-proofing.
Handwritten
Incorporating handwritten text was thematically congruous with the photos, and the little sketches she made in the first stages of her series made sense within the text of the book and emphasized the importance of the process.
